First your dentist will examine your face, head and neck.
Then, a through examination of your mouth which will include:
- Teeth, fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, decay
- The occlusion – this is the way your teeth bite and work together
- Jaw joints
- Gums
- Lips
- Cheeks
- Tongue
- The floor of the mouth and the roof of the mouth (this includes looking for signs of oral cancer as well as other dental and oral diseases)
This will give us a good picture of your dental and general health.
We may also take radiographs (x-rays) of your mouth. These will help to diagnose any problems under the gums and in the bone of your mouth.
When the examination is completed and the radiographs checked, we will be able to talk to you about what is happening in your mouth and, show you on a hand mirror or the intra-oral camera monitor.
We will then discuss with you any treatment you may need to improve your general dental health and how we can help you towards a confident and happy smile. We will also be able to give you a written treatment plan and an estimate of potential costs.
